Good night parish
It's been several days since my adventures around the Baltic with my old friend Rober. What can I say about this journey! We had a little bit of everything ... people that we have met, we could appreciate the legend of Vappu (typical Finnish party) and of course we did the obligatory and essential cultural tourism. Besides Finland, I could also visit by ferry trip, Estonia, where we spent one day in Tallinn.
But ... Where can I start?
And each story has a beginning and every journey has a first point ...
ANIMATED ADVENTURES OF YESTERDAY AND TODAY PRESENTS:
FINLAND ADVENTURE: The adventures of a Castilian in the Baltic
Despite threats of volcanic clouds and its potential effects, it all begins on a Tuesday morning about 5:00, when I wake up in Madrid at my sister. I quickly throw me over his shoulder backpack traveling to catch the bus to take me to the first posteriormete lot of meters, to finally finish on the cards 7:15.
First trip with flight connections in my life, so with calm and asking, you learn the procedure. Take off without delay, arriving on time, perfect Frankfort's airport and linking Helsinki without problems.
Arrive at the city of Raikkonen and Hakkinen about 18:00. As in my last trip to Italy, had lost several more Spanish than me at the airport ... so say I did a good Samaritan (and other times they have done for me) and help a girl ask for change to catch the right bus to downtown.
I sat next to a red-headed girl and decided to begin to soak up the Finnish environment. The girl could boast of a perfect English, so we could start a conversation about the typical things you talk about a country: party, bar, atmosphere ... I know I'm a taciturn.
Arriving at the station, we parted and went our separate ways each (together but not scrambled). Take my googlemaps form completely level and went walking to the hostel rather than take a tram to go familiar with the city.
After leaving the pack and freshen up, I decided to go for a while to see the cathedrals (Orthodox and Lutheran) and eat some way. According came out of the hostel for the reception, a little group of Spanish was around waiting ... but how?? The Spanish went out under the stones, so I was forced to postpone my visit some tourist to know that people who turned out to be young people travel to school.
As I walked near the cathedral with his eyes wide open, as was reflecting on the world had changed in a few years. In the morning he was in Madrid and now few hours later in Helsinki. When my father tells me that was a pioneer in reaching Baltanás aboard his 1972 Austin Morris from Santander, I say to myself that something has improved in this society.
The next day I woke up somewhat early (without force) to stop visiting Helsinki and be ready for the encounter with Robert in the afternoon. As the city is not too ostentatious and architecture sins to be rather simplistic compared to the constructions of Western Europe, the visit ended agile. A highlight: the chapel nestled in the rocky and Helsinki's central square.
At 14:00 I walked to the station, where he had been with Robert. There to meet again and give us a hug in the middle of the movie people make up time we had left behind. Team Progress was together again (we just lacked the Little Mexican).
We spent the afternoon visiting the island fortress Suomenlinna, certainly the most remarkable I saw in Finland (a part of these irrigated landscapes of endless forests). As they told us it was a defensive fortress almost impregnable, was called the Gibraltar of the Baltic. There, apart from guns and walls, there were many gangs of little kids doing some kind of rookie. Why?
I do not know if I told you but one of the reasons for my visit to Robert, was enjoying the party known as Vappu, which basically everybody goes fart that Alfredo (Alfredo poor, always takes the brunt) and wear foreign divers colors, depending on your university. Ah! as well as having a kind of sailor hat that is supposed to get when they finish school.
So among all these kids were walking Rober laugh and I tried not too far from the dirty tricks that suffered some of the locals. Somewhat later, hunger pick and chose stung a bit, regain strength and go to catch site to a very cool pub called the Sports Academy, to see the Barça - Inter (evil smile as I type). No comments.
Something touched and eager to take the last, ask where you can go on a Tuesday at 3:30 in the morning. Answer ... the usual pub Kimi Raikkonen. Imagine the scene when a gentle Nordic-foot goalkeeper, is the DNI's typical Spanish. With a smile says a thousand loves ... We do not like Spanish, we hate Santander and Fernando Alonso. I promise that I felt like I was laughing but political-pragmatic and argue that Kimmi return to F1 and also was doing well in rallies (lie deep). We entered the pub but not convinced us too ... to sleep before us a ferry to Tallinn.
10:00: I'm freezing cold next to a window, with the air conditioning in a boat ... but this happened here! Not that we were in Cadiz. Bad trip, bad stomach, one that I know I frequent the toilet (and was only two hehe).
Sightseeing in the rain to the city of Tallinn. Quite pleasant and nice to Helsinki. The old town is full of typical construction and is completely pedestrian. Forces recovered eating at the Olde Hansa, set in a medieval fashion. Great service, inventive cuisine, beer, honey, waiters Cracks and only twelve euros. (I suppose there is a fortune).
Return to Finland in the wonderful, comfortable and memorable ferry, train to Turku, let's see where have you been in recent years Rober! We arrived as expected and where Christ lived and lost the nails on top only had a bike ... In all this that we were loaded with beer and Minttu (strange brew typical there, who can not strong but is fifty degrees) smuggled from Estonia. We we were postcard.
Big Night appeared on the eve of the famous Vappu, the ESN (Erasmus Student Network) Turku had organized a sort of farewell party for the people. But if there is still a month! Fiesta and friendly people. I met some Spanish, a friend of Robert Saara and a lost Burgos, Pedro. Night without sad consequences, noted the video where the Baltic dumbest frustrating to go into one bike.
Dawns first expected May Vappu sight. Robert lives in the typical student area, where buildings are residences in the style you rent an entire room and have shared kitchen: decent and not too expensive. As I was saying is that the environment that was felt there was incredible ... people starting to drink about 10 o'clock, eating loudly, singing ... so worth all prepare for the big event.
And we got there ... like when Russell Crowe gives the order to his legions in Gladiator: "At my signal fire and anger" because that's how we spent the day ... jaja fighting for survival. No, it's really a cool event, very good atmosphere, groups of friends offer combined home (Minttus style) that are highly dangerous. "Endure the pull? "Endure the waves of people wanting to get drunk just for that to be the new one that comes to visit? Friends although I am somewhat greater, which was retained. I have spent many polytechnics in Burgos (some with disastrous results), a concert and countless nights of madness in Baltanás Quinito (land of drinkers) and further that pussy! I am Spanish (not to sting you to one, that abroad we are well regarded in this sense), I can stand it!
I survived, but I recognize that at times thought that did not come home.
Saturday, surf, rest ... they do not! It turns out that the party had not yet finished. They took me to a park where half the city was making a picnic ESPCI. Spanish noble, I welcomed the late afternoon as Robert was loose. I found a beer that is left eight degrees comfortable drinking. A host this call and told me that the party continues at home Saara who are playing a drinking game ... Ah! You win this not me! I am Castilian!
Back biting my words because I was expecting the typical, cards, dice, some Quinito to talk ...they do not! The game is not like his name but I will try to describe the best way I know: with a video
I know, brave and stupid drunk! Someone was played five "shots" with Anna (expert in this area) and was the last thing he did.
Sunday, cold sweats go through my head, regained consciousness with this feeling of dryness in the body and suddenly ... Where am I? Not the Rober room. We were still in that damn householder and one proposed to keep playing ... I go away Now
After getting a little of that, we tidied up and burn the clothes, I reflect ... Robert, I think it's time we continue with the cultural part of the trip. Saara The friendly, licensed and future PhD in art history teaches us the city and summarizes the anecdotes of each place. Remarkable history of the city of Turku has been burned several times, so that the buildings are relatively new. The cathedral was quite surprised me, because despite being Lutheran, has vestiges of Catholic, so it is more ornate and more sumptuous than those of Helsinki.
Monday, my last day (if the cloud most famous of the time allowed me) in Finland. We had with Stefan (a German engineer more nice than the old pesetas), Charles (a Frenchman, I leave it there), Saara (our faithful follower) and her roommate (which I can not remember his name, much less than it is pronounced). Turku visited the market, the port and evening sauna with its typical landing on the run like a penguin to throw the dirtier water and cold on a server to state.Despite everything and if you allow me the expression: with two balls to swim to the other side as the little old gentlemen Finnish or feel or suffer!
Tuesday 6:30 pipipipipipipi ... damn alarm! Shower and backpack last check (hard to Robert's room where the clothes and wanders by itself). Cup of coffee and to catch the bus to Helsinki.Emotional farewell ... I spent another week with Rober our style, it seemed that time had not passed but no, we're older, we are more spoiled and face it ... do not throw as much. Those times when we faced a long holiday marathon sessions at times and days are long gone. What remains unchanged is the spirit, could fall into clichés and flatter this character, but do not need it because things do not say or write, but live.
Following four planes, two meters, two buses and a car ... I come home! 23:00 Son, I have too much time thinking and remembering. Go to bed mate.
CONCLUSIONS TO THE EVENT:
To provide in the end it says "Kippis" thanks is "Kitten."
Do not play the game of chicken flying with Anna, I repeat never!
Finaldi is impressive, but I think if would be in winter to go to Lapland
Tallinn is a good destination, economic and visits.
In Finland, everyone is talking about the famous Sea Battle (1000 students on a ferry for three days, anything goes).
The Vappu becomes a Polytechnic of old (and authentic).
I hope you liked the story. Thanks for these stolen minutes.
